PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am looking forward to continuing my role as Director of the Ithaca College Summer Music Academy (SMA). I have a great deal of administrative experience from my previous position as Executive Director for the NYASTA String Institute from 2003-2010. PROFESSIONAL BIO
Over the years Mr. Mendez has developed a well-deserved reputation in New York State for his teaching excellence and energetic commitment to enhancing Music Education in the public school system. Carlos received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Ithaca College and Master of Music in Viola Performance from Binghamton University where he performed with the University Symphony as a Concerto Competition Winner.
Mr. Mendez has been teaching strings/orchestra in New York State for over 20 years. He currently teaches in the Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District where he is the Director of Orchestras at Fayetteville-Manlius High School.
As a professional educator, Mr. Mendez is involved in numerous organizations. He is the former President, Editor, Webmaster and Secretary of the New York American String Teachers Association. Mr. Mendez is a certified NYSSMA All-State Adjudicator and has adjudicated for numerous festivals and competitions throughout the state. Mr. Mendez is the current NYSSMA All-State Orchestra Chairperson. In 2005, he was presented with the Syracuse Symphony Annual Musicians Award for "Outstanding Music Educator in Instrumental Music - Orchestra".
