WELCOME! I have worked at Ithaca College since 2001 and in the Department of Education since 2005. We run undergraduate and graduate programs for students desiring teacher certification, and we teach courses and coordinate exciting programs open to all students. Although my responsibilities are varied, a large part of my time is dedicated to helping all Ithaca College Teacher Education students to become certified to teach in New York State. Most people don’t realize that there are 550-600 teacher education students at Ithaca College. Education programs are housed in the School of Music, School of Humanities and Sciences and in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance.
I am the Teacher Certification Officer for Ithaca College and assist students with any issues and/or requirements having to do with teacher certification. I regularly offer one-on-one support, provide written instructions and do presentations across campus in an effort to help students to more clearly understand the Teacher Certification process. Instructions for applying for teacher certification can be found in the Office of Teaching and Certification website at http://www.ithaca.edu/hs/depts/education/cert/ I also maintain data on all student teacher placements, facilitate all mentor-teacher payments and serve as the chief liaison with New York State Education Department on all teacher education matters, including submitting the formal college recommendation for teacher certification for all graduates. For further information on NY State Teacher Certification and to find out the requirements for teaching in New York, refer to the following link: www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert
Additionally, two years ago the Department of Education established a new computer lab and curriculum library in Williams Hall 314. I’m the operations coordinator for that space and my responsibilities include maintaining and cataloging all materials, staffing the lab, processing of all purchases and overseeing the lab’s smooth operation and security. We are very pleased to have this space to offer to our Humanities and Sciences Teacher Education students. Please refer to the H&S Computer lab/Curriculum Library’s website for further information http://www.ithaca.edu/hs/depts/education/curriculumlab/
The Department of Education continues to grow and evolve. I feel fortunate to work with such a wonderful group of dedicated professionals. If at any time questions should arise about education, teacher certification or the Department of Education, please don’t hesitate to contact me or stop by.
