I've been working in the media relations office since 1999, when the office was called the Office of Public Information. That name changed to the Office of Media Relations in 2003. I have seven years of corporate experience working in health care marketing and public relations. I also spent five years as an editor and reporter for daily and weekly newspapers.
My duties in media relations are to promote the college to external audiences that include local, regional and national media outlets, both print and electronic.
My areas of coverage are the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, the School of Music, and selected departments in the School of Humanities and Sciences (theater arts, physics, biology, computer science, mathematics, chemistry and biochemistry, art and art history). I also cover the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) and the Gerontology Institute, both of which are in the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies.
I am always looking for:
new research results from faculty
community service participation from students, faculty, and staff
upcoming campus events.
Since I collaborate with department colleague Shannon Mazourek on hometown news, I am also interested in students winning honors (such as Fulbright grants), students participating in service experiences abroad (such as "Healthcare and Culture" class that travels to the African nation of Malawi), and students taking part in such "splash" events as interning at the Olympics.
