After moving to Ithaca, Kate Miller joined the Ithaca College Academic Advising Center in August 2016.  She is passionate about guiding and teaching students as they experience college.  Becoming a member of the AAC team gave Kate the opportunity to dive right in to working with students, sharing her technology expertise, and learning every day.  At Ithaca College, Kate is an Academic Advisor with the Academic Advising Center.  She is the School of Music liaison for the AAC thanks to her passion for music.  She is also a First-Year Residential Experience Associate for the 2018-2019 year focusing on the topics of diversity and inclusion, social and emotional learning, and sustainability.  She loves to advise students through the trickiest of topics and help them develop their pathways to success.

Kate graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Public Policy from Michigan State University with minors in Music and Women's and Gender Studies.  After honing her software and hardware skills while working in information technology for an insurance company, Kate moved to Ohio to study higher education and student affairs.  She received her Master of Arts in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University while advising Criminal Justice, Undecided, and Public Health students, teaching, and assisting with off-campus student services.  Additionally, she worked as part of their orientation program at the University of Mount Union in the summer of 2015.

Outside of her work hours, Kate also dedicates her time to the Midwest Institute for Sexuality and Gender Diversity, a non-profit which guides and maintains the Midwest BLGTA College Conference (MBLGTACC), the largest student-led LGBTA college conference in the country.  She helped plan and advise the 2013 MBLGTACC conference, was the advisor and liaison for the 2018 MBLGTACC conference at the University of Nebraska - Omaha, and is the advisor and liaison for the 2020 MBLGTACC planning team.

When she's not at work or volunteering her time, Kate spends time with family, plays board games, cooks, and attempts to train her "guard cat" Baboo how to shake paws.  The last hobby is a work in progress, stay tuned.
